Virtual workshop for church musicians

August 8, 2020

Dr. John Behnke

The 2020 Music at Historic Trinity Workshop for Church Musicians, which is titled “Discovering New Repertoire and Improving Techniques,” will be held in a virtual format on Aug. 8 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The workshop is sponsored by Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistadt, Wis., and will be hosted by Dr. John Behnke, Emeritus Professor of Music at Concordia University Wisconsin.

The event will model ways to make music in these unique times. The schedule includes:

  • A live Zoom video discussion at noon Central time on Aug. 8.

Behnke will interview composers Kevin Hildebrand, David von Kampen, Jeffrey Blersch, Sandy Eithun, Lauran Delancy, Larry and Carla Sue, and Jacob Weber.

Attendees may ask questions and talk with the composers and fellow directors for an exchange of ideas.

  • Three YouTube video sessions (choral, handbell and organ) to watch on demand.

The workshops will feature new and old repertoire especially selected from Concordia Publishing House and other publishers for the circumstances you may encounter, such as having smaller choirs and fewer handbell ringers. CPH will offer a 20% discount.

Conference registration

  • $20 per person.

After registering, attendees will receive an informational email in early August with links to the three YouTube sessions, an invitation to the Zoom discussion session, and promo codes for CPH discounts on music purchases.
