As the prophet Isaiah had written\, John is the messenger of the Lord\, sent before His face to prepare His way. To this day\, the ministry of the forerunner continues in the preaching of the Law and the Gospel and in the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. By these ways and means\, “the glory of the LORD shall be revealed\, and all flesh shall see it together” (Is. 40:5)\, and the Good Shepherd “will gather the lambs in his arms” (Is. 40:11). He speaks “tenderly to Jerusalem\,” and He comforts His people by pardoning their iniquity (Is. 40:1–2). What is more\, He promises “new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells” (2 Peter 3:13). Repent\, therefore\, and humble yourself as you wait for His coming in peace (2 Peter 3:14)\, because He “is patient toward you\, not wishing that any should perish\, but that all should reach repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOne-Year Series Lectionary\n\n\n\nScripture readings\n\n\n\n\nMal. 4:1–6\n\n\n\nPsalm 50:1–15\n\n\n\nRom. 15:4–13\n\n\n\nLuke 21:25–36\n\n\n\n\nLectionary summary\n\n\n\nThe Lord Comes on the Last Day\n\n\n\nThe day on which our Lord returns will be a “great and awesome day” (Mal. 4:5). For He will come in a cloud with great power and glory. To the wicked and the proud\, it will be a Day of judgment that will “set them ablaze” (Mal. 4:1). The signs preceding this Day will bring them fear and fainting. But to those who believe\, who fear the name of the Lord\, this Day is one to look forward to and rejoice in: “. . . straighten up and raise your heads\, because your redemption is drawing near” (Luke 21:28). Christ our Redeemer is coming; the Sun of Righteousness will bring healing in His wings. Let us\, then\, give attention to the words of the Lord\, which do not pass away. He has been anointed by the Holy Spirit “to bring good news to the poor” and “to bind up the brokenhearted” (Isaiah 61:1). By the washing of the water with His Word and Spirit\, He clothes His Church with “the garments of salvation” and adorns her with His own righteousness “as a bride adorns herself with her jewels” (Is. 61:10). Therefore\, we “rejoice always” in the Lord\, “pray without ceasing” and “give thanks in all circumstances” (1 Thess. 5:16–18). Now He asks from prison\, “Are you the one who is to come …?” (Matt. 11:2). Jesus’ works bear witness that He is. The thundering voice of the Lord puts sinners in fear of death (Deut. 18:15–19). God\, therefore\, raised up a prophet like Moses — the Messiah\, the Christ. God came to His people veiled in human flesh. The skies poured down the Righteous One from heaven; the earth opened her womb and brought forth Salvation (Introit) through the blessed Virgin Mary\, the mother of the Lord (Luke 1:39–56). The fruit of her womb is the very Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world\, the One whose sandal strap John was not worthy to loose (John 1:19–28). SUMMARY:Annunciation of our Lord
DESCRIPTION:The Annunciation of our Lord will be observed on March 25. The Annunciation commemorates the visit of the angel Gabriel to the blessed Virgin Mary\, announcing that the eternal Son of God would take up human flesh in her womb and\, in accordance with Isaiah’s prophecy\, be born of a virgin. \n\n\n\nHis message declared that God showed undeserved kindness to Mary and\, by faith in His Word\, Christ was conceived in her. In this way\, she is a godly example of faith for us also — how a Christian hears the Words and promises of God and says\, “Behold\, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). \n\n\n\nThe Annunciation is appointed for March 25\, from which date Christmas came to be observed as the birth of Christ (nine months later). When the Annunciation falls in Passiontide\, Holy Week or Easter\, it is observed at another time. \n\n\n\nIf you are homebound\, traveling\, or otherwise unable to attend a service in person\, KFUO Radio airs worship services throughout the church year. In His light we see light\, and by Him “though our sins be as scarlet\, they shall be white as snow.” Christ’s incarnation and His resurrection\, His Gospel and its message to all nations are cause for our rejoicing. His purity before His Father becomes our purity. White reinforces this message of joy. \n\n\n\nWhite is also the appointed color for the 12 days of Christmas\, Epiphany (Jan. 6) and the first Sunday following it\, which is observed as the Baptism of Our Lord. It is also the color for Easter. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThree-Year Series and One-Year Series\n\n\n\nScripture readings\n\n\n\n\nIsaiah 7:10–14\n\n\n\nHebrews 10:4–10\n\n\n\nLuke 1:26–38\n\n\n\n\nLectionary summary\n\n\n\nIncarnate by the Holy Spirit\, Born of the Virgin Mary and Made Man\n\n\n\n“It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins” (Heb. 10:4). But “nothing will be impossible with God” (Luke 1:37). He opens ears to hear and wombs to conceive. “Let it be to me according to your word\,” says St. Mary (Luke 1:38). The Most High who once dwelt in the tabernacle comes to overshadow Mary\, who believes the angel’s “annunciation” (Luke 1:35). “The virgin shall conceive and bear a son\, and shall call his name Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14). In Jesus Christ\, God is with us — even from the moment of His conception. This miracle\, that Mary should become the mother of God\, will be a sign against the proud in Israel; it is the fulfillment of the prophecies of Isaiah and David. “I delight to do your will\, O my God\,” says Christ (Psalm 40:8). From Mary’s flesh\, the Most High has prepared a body for His Son (Heb. 10:5)\, a body to be offered “once for all” as the sacrifice that alone takes away sins and gives a righteousness apart from the Law (Heb. 10:10). Through His conception\, life and death\, we have been sanctified. God favors us in this child. SUMMARY:2027 Lutherland — Germany — Wittenberg — The Old Latin School Tour
DESCRIPTION:Support The Old Latin School and join The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod President Matthew Harrison\, Rev. Wilhelm Weber of The Old Latin School\, and other LCMS leaders on a tour of “Lutherland” sites across Germany. \n\n\n\nFrom June 2–15\, 2027\, this bus tour will take you along the paths of Luther\, through the heart of the Reformation in Wittenberg and to beautiful and cultural sites throughout Germany. The trip will span 12 nights and 13 days and be guided by an experienced multilingual tour director. \n\n\n\nA highlight will be Wittenberg’s Luther Wedding Festival\, an annual celebration of the marriage of former monk Martin Luther with the escaped nun Katharina von Bora on June 13\, 1525. With market stalls throughout the town\, traditional crafts\, live music and Reformation-era trade demonstrations\, this will surely be a memorable experience. \n\n\n\nTour stops include: \n\n\n\n\nMunich and Oberammergau in the beautiful Bavarian Alps\n\n\n\n\n\nThe mountain resort of Garmisch–Partenkirchen\n\n\n\n\n\nThe baroque old town of Heidelberg and Heidelberg Castle\n\n\n\n\n\nThe baroque old town of Heidelberg and Heidelberg Castle\n\n\n\n\n\nWorms and the Rhine River\n\n\n\n\n\nEisenach and Wartburg Castle\n\n\n\n\n\nErfurt\, with Luther’s Augustinian monastery\n\n\n\n\n\nEisleben\, where Luther was born and died\n\n\n\n\n\nWittenberg\, with the Luther Wedding Festival and Divine Service at the Old Latin School\n\n\n\n\n\nTorgau\n\n\n\n\n\nNuremberg\n\n\n\n\nLodging\, 19 meals\, land transportation in Germany\, gratuities and all admission fees at tour attractions are included in the tour cost of $2\,900. From there\, the tour bus will drive to the renowned Kloster Andechs for a welcome lunch with stipend. Afterward\, we continue to Oberammergau for check-in at Hotel Alte Post\, a charming hotel in the center of the Passion Play town. Dinner provided at the hotel. \n\n\n\nDay 3 — Fri. June 4\n\n\n\nVisit to the monastery in Ettal in the morning before spending the day at the mountain resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Enjoy stops at the Olympic Stadium as well as Partnachklamm to hike along the breathtaking gorge (this is a strenuous walk\, for experienced hikers only). In the evening\, enjoy dinner with traditional Bavarian entertainment including Schuhplattler folk dancing with a dinner stipend. Return to Oberammergau for the evening. \n\n\n\nDay 4 — Sat.\, June 5\n\n\n\nAfter breakfast\, venture into the stunning Bavarian Alps. We will visit King Ludwig’s Neuschwanstein Castle nestled in the mountains as well as Wieskirche. Divine Service in the late afternoon\, then head back to Oberammergau for a free evening and dinner on your own. \n\n\n\nDay 5 — Sun.\, June 6\n\n\n\nLeave the Alps and head north to Heidelberg. Walk along the Hauptstrasse shopping street and visit the Heidelberg castle\, the baroque-style old town and the famous University district. At the location of Luther’s 1518 Heidelberg Disputation\, we will pause to consider Luther’s theology of the cross developed in his Heidelberg Theses. Enjoy some free time discovering Heidelberg until we continue to Darmstadt for hotel check-in and a group dinner. \n\n\n\nDay 6 — Mon.\, June 7\n\n\n\nToday\, Worms is on your list. At the Diet of Worms in 1521\, Luther stood his ground with the Emperor and refused to recant what he had said and written about grace\, indulgences and the Pope. Our visit in Worms will include the grounds of the former Bishop’s Residence\, the Luther Monument and St. Peter’s Cathedral. At noon\, we continue to Rüdesheim. After some free time\, we will board a riverboat and take a two-hour Rhine river cruise\, seeing many castles and visiting sites made famous by German folklore\, including the Loreley. Disembark at St. Goar and travel back to Darmstadt for a free evening. \n\n\n\nDay 7 — Tue.\, June 8\n\n\n\nWe will make our way to Eisenach to visit the Wartburg Castle. This is where Luther was held in friendly captivity after being declared a heretic and outlaw\, and where he translated the New Testament into German. The castle was also the home of Elizabeth of Thuringia\, who renounced her royal privileges to spend her life serving the poor. Afterward\, we will drive into the center of Eisenach and visit the birthplace of Johann Sebastian Bach\, which is now a museum. Enjoy some free time exploring Eisenach before we head to Erfurt for hotel check-in and a group dinner. \n\n\n\nDay 8 — Wed.\, June 9\n\n\n\nA local guide will show us the beautiful city of Erfurt\, where Luther first studied law and later became a monk. See Luther’s Augustinian monastery\, the university he attended and St. Mary’s Cathedral\, where he was ordained. Enjoy ample free time to explore the city on your own in the afternoon and evening. \n\n\n\nDay 9 — Thur.\, June 10\n\n\n\nBegin the morning with a city tour of Eisleben\, the town where Luther was born and later died. At Luther’s baptismal church\, we will remember our own baptisms with a short meditation. Continue to Leipzig for exploring. On your self-guided tour\, we recommended visiting two famous Leipzig churches: Thomaskirche\, where Bach served as cantor\, and St. Nicholas Church\, where the weekly peace prayers grew into the “Peaceful Revolution.” Continue to Wittenberg for check-in and a group dinner. \n\n\n\nDay 10 — Fri.\, June 11\n\n\n\nStart the day in Wittenberg with a tour of the annex of the Luther House\, the former monastery and a wedding gift to Luther from the prince. The Luther Haus has one of the world’s largest Reformation archives. Unfortunately\, it is closed due to renovations\, but the most important pieces are on display in the neighboring Augusteum. We will also visit the Melanchthon House\, home of Philipp Melanchthon\, Luther’s companion throughout the Reformation. After a break for lunch\, we will take tours of both Wittenberg churches: the Castle Church where Luther’s 95 Theses were posted\, and the Town Church where Luther preached and where the Reformation Altar painted by Lucas Cranach the Elder is located. Luther’s Wedding Festival starts at 5:00pm with the arrival of the nuns.   \n\n\n\nDay 11 — Sat.\, June 12\n\n\n\nTravel to nearby Torgau (Torgau and Wittenberg both had a royal residence of the Saxon Prince Elector). We will visit the Palace (from the outside)\, the Palace Chapel (the first church designed as a Lutheran church)\, and the church where Katharina von Bora\, Luther’ wife\, is buried. Return to Wittenberg for wedding parade at 2:00 p.m. \n\n\n\nDay 12 — Sunday\, June 13\n\n\n\nDivine Service at the Old Latin School. The remainder of the day is free for you to enjoy the city festival on your own. \n\n\n\nDay 13 — Mon.\, June 14\n\n\n\nWe leave Wittenberg and travel to Nuremberg. We will have free time to walk around this medieval city; many will want to visit St. Sebald’s church. Afterward\, we leave Nuremberg for our final destination\, check-in at Marriott Freising hotel. In the evening\, we will celebrate the past 13 days\, sharing our stories and memories at our Farewell Dinner provided at nearby Huber Weissbräu Restaurant. \n\n\n\nDay 14 — Tue.\, June 15\n\n\n\nTransfer to Munich airport for homebound flights.

SUMMARY:St. Michael’s Day
DESCRIPTION:The Church commemorates St. Michael and All Angels each year on Sept. 29. \n“Fear not.” So every angel begins his speech in the Scriptures. They are the fearsome warriors of the Most High God\, commanded by Michael the Archangel\, forming the “Sabbaoth\,” the armies of the Lord. And yet\, they are given this office as His heavenly legate: to announce the good news of great joy in Christ Jesus\, incarnate\, risen and ascended\, all for us mortals. Christ’s warriors and messengers are set to guard duty for His Christians. Their unseen eyes draw us to follow their gaze\, “for they always behold the face of the Father\, who is in heaven” (Matt. 18:10). \nHow is Michael a “Saint”?\nThe word “saint” simply means “holy one.” We often use this word to describe those Christians who have departed this life in the faith. The New Testament most often uses it to address Christians in the Church on earth (Rom. 1:7\, 1 Cor. 1:2\, Eph. 1:1\, etc.). Michael and the angels of God are not humans “sanctified in Christ Jesus” (1 Cor. 1:2)\, but they are “holy angels” — holy just as God created them and as the Scriptures describe them (Mark 8:38\, Acts 10:22\, Rev. 14:10). \n\nLiturgical color for St. Michael’s Day\nWhite is the color of purity and completeness and the color for all major feasts of Christ.  This color\, used primarily during these Sundays\, assists in bearing the message that “though your sins be as scarlet\, they shall be white as snow.” Christ’s triumph from the grave on Resurrection day is the cause for our rejoicing. His purity before his Father becomes our purity. White reinforces that message of joy. \n\nOne-Year Series and Three-Year Series\nScripture readings\n\nDaniel 10:10–14; 12:1–3\n\n\nRev.12:7–12\n\n\nMatt. 18:1–11 or Luke 10:17–20\n\nLectionary summary\nOur Father in Heaven Protects His Children by Giving His Holy Angels Charge Over Them\nWe live in “a time of trouble” (Dan. 12:1)\, in the midst of great tribulation. Satan and his wicked angels have been thrown out of heaven and have come down to earth “in great wrath\,” with woeful “temptations to sin” and with constant accusations (Rev. 12:8–12; Matt. 18:7). Even so\, we are encouraged by the presence and protection of St. Michael and the holy angels\, whom God sends to help us in the strife (Dan. 10:11–13). By “the authority of his Christ\,” His holy angels guard and keep us in body and soul. These heavenly servants of God preserve His human messengers on earth\, the ministers of “the blood of the Lamb\,” against all the power of the enemy\, for by “the word of their testimony\,” the Church is saved and the devil is defeated (Rev. 12:10–11; Luke 10:18–19). By their preaching and Baptism of repentance\, the old Adam and the old evil foe are “drowned in the depth of the sea” (Matt. 18:6). DESCRIPTION:The Annunciation of our Lord will be observed on March 25. The Annunciation commemorates the visit of the angel Gabriel to the blessed Virgin Mary\, announcing that the eternal Son of God would take up human flesh in her womb and\, in accordance with Isaiah’s prophecy\, be born of a virgin. \n\n\n\nHis message declared that God showed undeserved kindness to Mary and\, by faith in His Word\, Christ was conceived in her. In this way\, she is a godly example of faith for us also — how a Christian hears the Words and promises of God and says\, “Behold\, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). \n\n\n\nThe Annunciation is appointed for March 25\, from which date Christmas came to be observed as the birth of Christ (nine months later). It is also the color for Easter. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThree-Year Series and One-Year Series\n\n\n\nScripture readings\n\n\n\n\nIsaiah 7:10–14\n\n\n\nHebrews 10:4–10\n\n\n\nLuke 1:26–38\n\n\n\n\nLectionary summary\n\n\n\nIncarnate by the Holy Spirit\, Born of the Virgin Mary and Made Man\n\n\n\n“It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins” (Heb. 10:4). But “nothing will be impossible with God” (Luke 1:37). He opens ears to hear and wombs to conceive. “Let it be to me according to your word\,” says St. Mary (Luke 1:38). The Most High who once dwelt in the tabernacle comes to overshadow Mary\, who believes the angel’s “annunciation” (Luke 1:35). “The virgin shall conceive and bear a son\, and shall call his name Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14). In Jesus Christ\, God is with us — even from the moment of His conception. This miracle\, that Mary should become the mother of God\, will be a sign against the proud in Israel; it is the fulfillment of the prophecies of Isaiah and David. “I delight to do your will\, O my God\,” says Christ (Psalm 40:8). From Mary’s flesh\, the Most High has prepared a body for His Son (Heb. 10:5)\, a body to be offered “once for all” as the sacrifice that alone takes away sins and gives a righteousness apart from the Law (Heb. 10:10). Through His conception\, life and death\, we have been sanctified. God favors us in this child. SUMMARY:St. Michael’s Day
DESCRIPTION:The Church commemorates St. Michael and All Angels each year on Sept. 29. \n“Fear not.” So every angel begins his speech in the Scriptures. They are the fearsome warriors of the Most High God\, commanded by Michael the Archangel\, forming the “Sabbaoth\,” the armies of the Lord. And yet\, they are given this office as His heavenly legate: to announce the good news of great joy in Christ Jesus\, incarnate\, risen and ascended\, all for us mortals. Christ’s warriors and messengers are set to guard duty for His Christians. Their unseen eyes draw us to follow their gaze\, “for they always behold the face of the Father\, who is in heaven” (Matt. 18:10). \nHow is Michael a “Saint”?\nThe word “saint” simply means “holy one.” We often use this word to describe those Christians who have departed this life in the faith. The New Testament most often uses it to address Christians in the Church on earth (Rom. 1:7\, 1 Cor. 1:2\, Eph. 1:1\, etc.). Michael and the angels of God are not humans “sanctified in Christ Jesus” (1 Cor. 1:2)\, but they are “holy angels” — holy just as God created them and as the Scriptures describe them (Mark 8:38\, Acts 10:22\, Rev. 14:10). \n\nLiturgical color for St. Michael’s Day\nWhite is the color of purity and completeness and the color for all major feasts of Christ.  This color\, used primarily during these Sundays\, assists in bearing the message that “though your sins be as scarlet\, they shall be white as snow.” Christ’s triumph from the grave on Resurrection day is the cause for our rejoicing. His purity before his Father becomes our purity. White reinforces that message of joy. \n\nOne-Year Series and Three-Year Series\nScripture readings\n\nDaniel 10:10–14; 12:1–3\n\n\nRev.12:7–12\n\n\nMatt. 18:1–11 or Luke 10:17–20\n\nLectionary summary\nOur Father in Heaven Protects His Children by Giving His Holy Angels Charge Over Them\nWe live in “a time of trouble” (Dan. 12:1)\, in the midst of great tribulation. Satan and his wicked angels have been thrown out of heaven and have come down to earth “in great wrath\,” with woeful “temptations to sin” and with constant accusations (Rev. 12:8–12; Matt. 18:7). Even so\, we are encouraged by the presence and protection of St. Michael and the holy angels\, whom God sends to help us in the strife (Dan. 10:11–13). By “the authority of his Christ\,” His holy angels guard and keep us in body and soul. These heavenly servants of God preserve His human messengers on earth\, the ministers of “the blood of the Lamb\,” against all the power of the enemy\, for by “the word of their testimony\,” the Church is saved and the devil is defeated (Rev. 12:10–11; Luke 10:18–19). By their preaching and Baptism of repentance\, the old Adam and the old evil foe are “drowned in the depth of the sea” (Matt. 18:6). SUMMARY:Annunciation of our Lord
DESCRIPTION:The Annunciation of our Lord will be observed on March 25. The Annunciation commemorates the visit of the angel Gabriel to the blessed Virgin Mary\, announcing that the eternal Son of God would take up human flesh in her womb and\, in accordance with Isaiah’s prophecy\, be born of a virgin. \n\n\n\nHis message declared that God showed undeserved kindness to Mary and\, by faith in His Word\, Christ was conceived in her. In this way\, she is a godly example of faith for us also — how a Christian hears the Words and promises of God and says\, “Behold\, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). \n\n\n\nThe Annunciation is appointed for March 25\, from which date Christmas came to be observed as the birth of Christ (nine months later). But “nothing will be impossible with God” (Luke 1:37). He opens ears to hear and wombs to conceive. “Let it be to me according to your word\,” says St. Mary (Luke 1:38). The Most High who once dwelt in the tabernacle comes to overshadow Mary\, who believes the angel’s “annunciation” (Luke 1:35). “The virgin shall conceive and bear a son\, and shall call his name Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14). In Jesus Christ\, God is with us — even from the moment of His conception. This miracle\, that Mary should become the mother of God\, will be a sign against the proud in Israel; it is the fulfillment of the prophecies of Isaiah and David. “I delight to do your will\, O my God\,” says Christ (Psalm 40:8). From Mary’s flesh\, the Most High has prepared a body for His Son (Heb. 10:5)\, a body to be offered “once for all” as the sacrifice that alone takes away sins and gives a righteousness apart from the Law (Heb. 10:10). Through His conception\, life and death\, we have been sanctified. God favors us in this child.
