SPM Zion XVI Conference: Lutheran Accents in Specialized Pastoral Ministry

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod will host a Zion XVI Conference entitled “Lutheran Accents in Specialized Pastoral Ministry” on Sept. 15-18, 2016, in Belleville, Ill, at Our Lady of the Snows Retreat Center.
The conference is being sponsored by the LCMS Office of National Mission, and the event is open to representatives from the LCMS, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod, the North American Lutheran Church and other guests.
The triennial conferences — which originated in Zion, Ill, in 1967 — focus on and celebrate the importance of Specialized Pastoral Ministry in chaplaincy, pastoral counseling and clinical pastoral education in the Lutheran church.
Registration is $100 for double occupancy, $125 for single occupancy and $75 for the commuter day rate.

Participants & Schedule
Speakers will include the Rev. Dr. Timothy Saleska, Professor and Director of Ministry Formation, Concordia Seminary, St. Louis; the Rev. Dr. Evon Flesberg, Assistant Professor, Vanderbilt Divinity School and AAPC Diplomate; and the Rev. John Fale, Executive Director, LCMS Office of International Mission and AAPC Fellow.
The Rev. Dr. John Nunes, President, Concordia College, New York, will be the Bible study leader. The Rev. Dr. Carlos Hernandez will preach during worship.

Christus in Mundo Awards Banquet
The Christus in Mundo Awards Banquet is scheduled for Saturday evening, and individuals will be honored for major contributions to ministries in chaplaincy, pastoral counseling and clinical pastoral education within their church bodies.
Two colleagues each from the LCMS and ELCA will be recognized. The deadline for nominating a colleague is June 1. For an ELCA nomination form, contact the Rev. John Schumacher at jesjms@att.net; for an LCMS form, go to lcms.org/spm.
In-Gathering
Attendees are invited to bring gently used stoles, albs, altar paraments and communion sets to send to overseas missionaries and domestic pastors. They will be received during a worship service.
Offerings
Offerings received during worship will be divided equally between ELCA and LCMS Give Something Back scholarship endowments.
Transportation
Free shuttle service will be available from the airport to the retreat center. Air travelers will be informed of meeting locations and ride times.
Continuing Education Credit
Official NBCC credit will not be available for Zion attendees. However, 10.25 continuing education contact hours will be granted, and the form will be available at the conference.
Tours
Friday afternoon will be free time, and several tours and activities in the St. Louis area have been arranged.
