Specialized Pastoral Ministry retreat: Danville, Calif.

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod’s Specialized Pastoral Ministry (SPM) will host an educational retreat Tuesday, May 16, through Thursday, May 18, 2017, in Danville, Calif., at the San Damiano Retreat.

The conference theme is “Crossing the Lines — Approaching the Edge.” The keynote presenters are Rev. Dr. Larry Vogel, associate executive director, LCMS Commission on Theology and Church Relations (CTCR), and Rev. Bart Day, executive director, LCMS Office of National Mission (ONM).

Registration is free for specialized pastoral ministers, and meals and housing at the retreat center are also included. Registration for spouses is $80.

The SPM educational event schedule includes Bible studies, presentations, a panel discussion, a question-and-answer session and fellowship opportunities.

Bible study leader

• The Rev. Dr. Robert Newton, president, LCMS California-Nevada-Hawaii District

Peer presenters

• SPM colleagues will present challenging — and perhaps controversial — case material from their ministries.
• Peers will be invited to share joys as well as challenges, ask questions and offer wisdom in small, confidential groups.

Audience

Educational events are for those who serve in Specialized Pastoral Ministry: emergency services and institutional chaplains, pastoral counselors and clinical pastoral educators. Those exploring a vocation in SPM are also welcome.
